A combination of negative factors pushed international sharemarkets lower in
January. The UK was a particularly poor performer as fears about insurance
company insolvency generating forced selling added to general nervousness. Again
the Australian market proved to be relatively resilient, with the record trade
deficit at month end the main trigger pushing the market into negative

Military Conflict in Iraq -- Investment Implications
Past bear markets have provided excellent buying opportunities. After three
years of decline in financial markets, talk of the restoration of value and the
prospect for a rebound in share prices has increased (see the chart below
